-----THE
[/i] rain that never ceased to come to an end for the past several hours did absolutely nothing for cassius and his knowledge of what time it actually was. since twelve o’clock when harley left, it felt as though no time at all had passed as the sky remained gray hued and the rain poured heavily against what sounded like a tin roof. to his left, the time 3:37am flashed brightly, and he scowled as he lifted the bottle of jack daniels to his lips, taking a swig before placing the half empty glass bottle right beside the alarm clock. after a moment of fiddling through the drawer, he found that bottle he was looking for. contrary to the liquid, this was meant to have a whole other effect on him. taking out three pills from the tainted prescription bottle, smashing them up with the razor blade that was placed strategically within the cap of the bottle, he proceeded to snort the powdery substance until there was practically no trace of it. it wasn’t long before he managed to half wander the depressingly empty apartment before his mind raced over the text messages he’d received from flora only the night before. something about harley fucking around, with people who went unnamed, until she mentioned his brothers name. if he hadn’t lost it then, he was going to lose it now. between the mixture of the vicodin and the familiar alcohol, his mind remained in a glorified haze, as it usually did, feelings of being invincible mixed with feelings of a profound sadness. without any thought put into it, his fists made a b-line straight to the wall before him, over, and over again. the pictures on the mantle now in tiny shambles as his arm flooded right over the surface, wiping them all off. heavy anger driven gasps for air left his lips as he wandered to the door, taking his jacket off of the hook, and the keys right off the coffee table. -----WHERE[/i] he was going, he had no idea. but the vacant apartment did nothing for his state of mind. driving the abnormally clear streets of new york, he blew every red light, every stop sign, the said invincibility evident as he paid no attention to the fact that there could be a cop at any given street. it wasn’t long before he found himself in a familiar parking spot. hidden within the depths of harley’s workplace, watching her from afar, making sure that she wasn’t being taken advantage of, or provoking the men of the night to take advantage of her. for what felt like forever, he watched as she poured a cup of coffee for an obviously scummy man, and he picked up his phone and called the diner. “ put harley on the phone, now, [/i]” he scowled at the man on the other line, watching his face turn to harley who was still at the table. and after he told him that she was unavailable, there was a whole new rage inside of him. how the hell was it acceptable for his girlfriend to be unavailable to him, yet completely available to sit there flirting the night away with the random passing men throughout the diner? it wasn’t. or at least he thought. and with that he was exiting the car and heading straight into the diner. his eyes met with the man who’d answered the phone first, casting him a devious glare before making his way to harley who was seemingly doing her job. “ what the fuck are you doing? [/i]” he managed to slur through his intoxicated stupor. without giving her much of a moment to answer, his rough hand wrapped tightly around her fragile upper arm, as he pulled her right out behind him. somewhere within the haze of the mind, this wasn’t unprofessional on her behalf, as long as he pulled her outside- he was doing no wrong. “ so this is what you fucking do every night? [/i]” he began yelling, kicking the bumper of his car out of pure frustration, and in hopes of refraining him from laying a hand on her.

----harley was in her element. holding in one hand a plate, a slice of devil's food cake balanced dauntingly upon it, and in the other a jug of steaming recently brewed coffee, the young woman's hips swung rhythmically as she sauntered from one side of the diner to the other. she slid the plate down in front of a burly man sitting near the door, her freshly glossed lips tugging into a flirtatious smile. "coffee?
[/i]" she offered, her voice sweet enough to mimic honey, her eyebrow tilted in such a way as to suggest more than a simple refill. recently the blonde had been feeling terribly homesick. she was in the process of romanticizing her memories of her hometown even as she recalled them, painting in pretty but fictitious details in retrospect. she remembered the texan night sky being a more velvetly blue than it was, imagined the stars brighter than they were. she remembered her pregnancy as being a blissful period in her life, rather than one of guilty sips of wine and deep-rooted fears of abandonment. more than anything, she remembered her relationship being far more idyllic than it had been, remembered cassius' fleeting moments of kindness and not his frequent bouts of hysteria and rage. it was no wonder that, with this beautiful memory in mind, she missed texas. but since she made the huge step of accepting this job, things had picked up for harley. just being around strangers, getting the chance for a little harmless banter with the customers had made the girl regain some of her lost vibrancy. it may have been the graveyard shift, but harley had a bounce in her step, a positive attitude that was reflected in the intemperate tips she was earning. it was as if she had managed to turn back the clock and recapture herself as she was many years before, in high school, before she had alessia. she wasn't even self-aware enough to feel guilty for enjoying not feeling like a mother or a devoted girlfriend, and her ignorance truly felt blissful. ----returning to the counter and calling another order through to the kitchen, harley offered another of her small smirks to the chef, a man whose gruffness held a certain appeal to the girl. he scratched his unruly stubble as if unsure as to what to make of her - he undoubtedly knew this was her general manner with the customers, and wasn't as welcoming to it as they or harley's boss were. she was almost put out by this, not taking her eyes off the man as she replaced her notepad in a handy pocket of her apron, even ignoring the phone ringing somewhere behind her. this was her first mistake. obliviously returning to another table to give them their fries, harley didn't catch the uneasy glances she was getting from her boss. giggling at the overfriendly thanks she received in return for the fries, harley was about to reply to the man just as suggestively when she heard the bell over the door ring out, and she glanced up to see who had entered. her heart sank right to the pit of her stomach. " cassius?" she said stupidly, the sight of her rugged boyfriend almost too jarring to accept, " what--". cut off before she could finish her questioning, harley was dragged outside. pulling her arm sharply away from him, she immediately started rubbing where he'd pulled her. "" that hurt," she muttered petulantly, her eyes moving from the ground to his face. she could smell the alcohol lacing his breath. wincing as he kicked the bumper, harley returned her eyes to the ground, looking every bit the guilty schoolgirl he was making her feel she was. but it was as she glanced at the diner, as she noted the concerned expression her manager was wearing and the gawping of the customers that she felt a wash of anger and humiliation. hitting him uselessly on the arm, she proceeded to push at him, though he didn't budge. " you're so stupid cassius, you're going to get me fucking fired! but right, that's what you want," she snorted, folding her arms, now the surly teenager. " go home, jack daniels must be missing you," she said, turning to return to the diner. ------status doneee. ------notes oh my god, sorry this is a) so shit, & b) so late! ------music american dad, embarrassing.
