INTERVIEW
"ashley has always been extremely spunky. she's very tough around the edges but she has her moments when she's a little more vulnerable and shows the rest of the world that she's human. a thing that her mother and i taught her was that she can do anything she wants and be whatever she wants to be because she has a lot of opportunities and things going for her. her illness, drug use, and drinking doesn't get the best of her but it definitely worries us. still, ashley is our daughter and while times look bad right about now i'm confident she can get out of any situation."
nick bennett, forty-two
"lele and i grew up very close, almost like sisters. we're only a week apart so we did a lot of things together. when we went around the neighborhood i was known as sugar and she was known as spice. she got me to do really stupid things with her and it only got better around middle school. we went to nightingale together and it's just as stuffy as the rumors say it is but we turned that school upside down. she's a lucky girl and i've always sort of envied her courage. i'm not the one to stand up for myself but the thing i love the most about lele is the fact that she stands up for everyone and doesn't allow people to be bullied."
alexis bennett, cousin
"lele was a fucking blast! my bandmates and i loved her a lot because she was crazy as hell but knew how to have fun. she's definitely my ride or die. like if i was a drug dealer and i got caught she'd carry on the business and wear the pants. we toured a lot together around the united states and made pretty decent memories. everything was great until one day in arizona she just decided that she couldn't do it anymore. at the time i was really pissed so i kicked her out of our bus. i heard she hitchhiked her way back to new york. we've talked a couple of times since then but only as friends."
shane dylan, twenty-four
"in my class room ms. bennett was a pretty decent student. she was a leader and always willing to participate in class. i always got the feeling that she was constantly thinking and at times i'd ask her what's on her mind and she'd just smile and say 'a little bit of everything'. now mind you, she was only about ten years old and in fifth grade so naturally i was a little shocked. once she went off to nightingale i checked on her and i was surprised by what teachers there had to say about her because that's definitely not the witty ashley i remember."
mrs. susan edgecombe, forty-seven
"to put it simple... I LOVE THIS BITCH! she's the coolest chick you'll ever meet and we get into a lot of shit together. i never thought that i'd like her because when i met her back in sixth grade i was sort of like 'gross, a stuck up queens chick' but her, me, and alexis hung out a loooot. by ninth grade though, alexis sort of did her own thing with the safer crowd but i think ashley and i got a little more dangerous. we'd skip class to go to jersey and sneak out to a lot of college parties. i depend on her to take care of me in case i pass out and she depends on me for my husband's... supplies. she's like my sister now!"
taryn alcott, twenty-two
"ashley bennett disgusts me. she doesn't come from an old money family like the other girls that we went to high school with but i'm not a total snob so i looked passed that. the thing i hated about her was the fact that she didn't appreciate what was given to her. okay, here goes this girl from queens who gets to go to a very prestigious school on the upper east side who gets to hang out with manhattan's elite. you'd think she'd enjoy that but no, she repays us by smoking indoors, painting, and not even hanging out with us. i have to admit that i did try to get under her skin but her personality was way too laid back so it was all for nothing. she's a waste of space."
ashley porter, twenty-one
PERSONAL
but really, i am... the girl who wants to do things her way. i don't like the whole glamorous lifestyle that's shoved in my face constantly just by living and working in the upper east side, i think it's fake as fuck. i'm a really compassionate person and i have a big heart but i don't show it easily. if someone comes at me wrong or steps on my toes then i'm not afraid to defend myself. i'm a tough girl because i know that the world doesn't care about me so i don't care about other people. i usually like to give everyone a chance so i like everyone until proven guilty.
and i live by... "I haven`t taken an overdose of sleeping pills and called my agent. I haven`t been in jail, and I don`t go running to the psychiatrist every two minutes. That`s something of an accomplishment these days."
