---NEW york was a massively intense city, especially for a young girl who had never left her home country in her twenty years of life. sasha llewylen had grown up in wales, in a small town country house with her modestly earning family. apart from moving between wales and england, sasha had never left britain. the wet weather and dismal skies were all she had ever known, and change was rarely an option. as she stood at the window of her family’s new townhouse, staring into the traffic congregating outside and the people busily hurrying about their day, sasha could barely breathe but to take it all in. she’d been here for a month or so but she hadn’t even begun to appreciate the sheer volume of the activity here in new york. though the skyline was littered with dark, tall buildings and the pavements that mirrored their colours, the dull grey of britain she had longed to escape, the neon yellow taxies roared through the streets, adding a dash of colour, followed by public transport, fast cars and the rare limo slowly sauntering down the road. the hub of new york was like nothing the brunette girl had experienced before. turning her back on the outside world, sasha cast her glance around her room. at twenty, she had been thinking of getting her own place, until her parents had bought her here to new york. she couldn’t begin to comprehend finding a place to live just yet, not with everything still to discover. the room was painted a light beige colour, with cream carpet to compliment. the bare necessities filled the room, and her own possessions littered the floor, strewn carelessly about the place as she made herself at home. on her bed laid a simple ---- dress teamed with matching coloured shoes, ready for her evening with ezekiel.
---ZEKE and sash went way back. both having been teachers back in england, they’d formed a friendship which had transformed into a forbidden romance. on and off for four years, the couple yo-yoed blissfully through states of happiness and elation, and states of despair and misery. zeke spent half his year in new york, which meant the couple only saw each other six months of the twelve. this limited their closeness and, as such, their relationship. though difficult, sasha knew she loved zeke with her heart and wouldn’t end what little they already had for the world. however, unfortunately, all good things come to an end and the couple decided, amicably of course, that the best plan of action was to separate, at least for a trial period. sasha was devastated by the split and had never quite returned to her normal, joyous self – the only thing keeping the brunette upbeat was the knowledge that zeke missed her, and wasn’t seeing anybody else. it had been six months since the two had actually gotten together, and she was undoubtedly nervous. the butterfly feelings she always got when she thought about zeke were ever present in her stomach, fluttering away and reminded her constantly of what was about to come. sighing and clearing her head, sasha slipped out her casual clothes and picked up the dress laying on her bed, throwing it carefully over her head and sliding it down her body. smoothing it over to make sure it clung perfectly, she padded, barefoot, over to her vanity table. her make-up was already done and her hair was simple, a light touch up making it look impeccable. happy with the way she looked, although not fully satisfied as was always the way when seeing zeke, sasha stepped into her shoes and finally left her room.
---SAFE in the knowledge that she knew where she was headed, sasha bid farewell to her parents and stepped out into the cool air, her thin heels clattering along the ground. her arms immediately bristled in the wind and she hurried to her car, sliding herself into it quickly and carefully, revelling in the slight warmth of it. it didn’t take her long to navigate her way to zeke’s event and she parked her car up outside the major hall, surrounded by glamorous people in long dresses, their thin legs protruding from the ends. swallowing her nerves, sasha stepped out of her car and locked it safely behind her, her glance moving wildly from person to person, searching for zeke. with each lady she landed on, her butterflies grew, her chocolate brown eyes taking in their flowing ball gowns teamed with towering heels, or their thigh length party dresses teamed with endless bronzed legs. leaning against the metal of her car, sasha closed her eyes for a minute and breathed deeply, calming herself. not only was she envious of every single woman here, it was the first time she’d be seeing zeke for six months. brushing her hair from her face, sasha opened her eyes and strode forwards, into the throws of people, blending in effortlessly. she still glanced around wildly for zeke, before spotting him over near the door, leaning against a pillar. her heart leapt to her throat as her eyes laid upon him, handsome as ever, dressed up in a suit and looking very smart. she caught his eye and smiled meekly, wandering over slowly. ”hey,” she said, a little breathlessly, her eyes still locked with his. ”i’m feeling a little underdressed,” she laughed out, again glancing around herself at all the beautiful ladies attending. ”everyone here looks stunning. it’s like something from a movie,” she commented, smiling at him shyly and almost feeling herself slip back into their old routine. she could only hope things would be that simple.

---HAVING been a complete travelling addict since he was about eighteen, zeke had become used to an ever changing life schedule. some days he'd be a drama teacher, other days he'd be teaching english, others he'd be director of some theatre production. any of which happened on either side of the atlantic, creating an incredibly busy but fulfilling lifestyle for the young brit. waking up that morning to a completely empty day was somewhat strange, he had far too much time to get ready for something which wasn't happening until around seven and would actually take him less than five minutes to actually get ready for. what he did need to prepare himself for was sasha. it was absolutely no secret that zeke couldn't help but wear his heart on his sleeve and the complete heart ache had been apparent from day one. he'd gone as far as to decide that he was lonely in new york, despite sasha never being in new york when he was before, and therefore required more of a pet than his bearded dragon. his dark eyes flashed down to his feet where the cat was idly cleaning its paws and sighed, he was still completely head over heels for sasha, but he knew fine well that it was impossible to have a relationship with his rediculous work schedule and need to be in different places constantly through out the globe. he wanted to travel, to experience different things and that wasn't fair to sasha in the slightest.
---HE could remember the exact day they first met, his first day on the job and he was already running late since his car had decided to break down half way there and he'd forgotten to take money for a bus. he'd walked into his first class to find her just talking away to the students and from then he completely admired the way they respected her, the way they clearly found her a likable person to be around and the smile she flashed at him as she turned around was forever etched in his mind. now zeke had never believed in love at first sight, and he'd gladly admit he was in no way in love with sasha at that point, in fact he wasn't even in love with her when they first started dating, he'd simply loved her company, found her conversation topics interesting and generally loved her personality, but being in love was something that he'd found a difficult thing. but once he did fall, he fell incredibly hard. zeke proabbly couldn't have coped for those four years not having sasha there by his side whenever he was in england and he'd constantly look forward to coming home, where as before when he was eighteen he'd been far too consumed in getting away from the bore of durham. he'd pack weeks in advance, come back days and weeks earlier each time and delay returning to new york as long as possible but it was still a strain on their relationship. not only did the time zone prevent decent conversations taking place during the day, unless one was in a lesson while the other was fighting to stay awake, it began to tear down the relationship, creating awkward barriers between them. it wasn't as if their split was completely one sided, it was fully mutual, he agreed, she agreed. there was nothing more too it other than a feeling of loss and loneliness.
---IDLY flicking through his wardrobe trying to find the least dorky formal outfit he had, zeke was forced to go with the plainest suit possible as he ran his fingers through his dark curly hair and sighed. he'd probably have to just get over it, he'd never been able to pull off the formal look but he'd always been able to pull anything off as entertainment, that's just what he'd have to do. he put on the suit, whilst pushing his cat off the items numerous times, scolding her curiosity and taking out his nervous energy on her with a few sharp snaps of the tongue and being pulled from the wrinkled sheets of the bed to the floor plenty of times. avoiding the mirror, which would only highlight the fact he was born to have an element of mess about him, he pulled on two odd socks, one grey and one black, his slightly scuffed black shoes and threw down some food in the kitchen before checking up on the bearded dragon, being as lazy as ever. despite seemingly having the entire day to prepare he was now running behind schedule, since he'd promised he'd be there atleast half an hour early to help greet and set up the last few last minute things, which of course had him dashing around the ground floor appartment like a mad man. finally he was sat in his old navy car, backing up onto the road to drive a decent walking distance to the theatre where he'd been working alongside his teaching job as the school near him also. his head was a complete whirl, busy with thoughts and remembering what he had to do, it was a surprise he hadn't managed to drive into anything on his way there, but he parked up expertly and looked at his wrist, scolding himself for forgetting his watch and rolling his eyes. zeke composed himself briefly in his car before jumping out in an overly enthusiastic manner, rubbing his hands together as he took the steps at the front of the theatre two at a time.
---ZEKE had been busying himself with finalising the performance arrangements, seating plans for the theatre, the times, sorting out issues within the orchestra and before he knew it people were piling through the doors and musing over menus. he couldn't help but smile to himself as he briefly made small talk with anyone who caught his attention as he made his way to the doorway in order to catch sasha on the way in. he hadn't seen her in far too long, in his opinion, and he was incredibly curious as to how she was doing, if she'd changed. as he reached the door he got drawn into a conversation, causing his back to be turned to the incoming light flow of people as he ennunciated every word with his hands flying all over the place. as soon as he was finally released from the conversation he turned, leaning against the pillars around the door, enjoying the cool air. he seriously wished he had an indication of the time so he wasn't left in suspense as to when sasha was going to show, but then he caught sight of her. her long brown hair, doll-like features, long legs expertly stretching out and balanced on incredibly high and thin heels. zeke's face lit up, his permanent smile etched on his features extended even further as he locked eyes with her, straightening up as she walked up the steps in front of the theatre. she looks breathtaking, as she always had but he was taken abback this time. maybe it wasn't seeing her for months, maybe it was the fact he was refusing to let anything other than a friendly catch up happening which battled with everything else he felt towards her, but eitherway she was stunning and he couldn't help but look completely gormless for a few seconds while she greeted him. ”hey, you.” he eyed her up and down slowly before diverting his eye to others walking into the theatre and shook his head. ”you look perfect.” he laughed quietly at her comment and held out a hand for her's, to lead her in. ”it's called new york, sash. they just looks for an excuse for a good dress up.” he pursed his lips as he nodded to the doorman who was checking guestlists, somewhat taking his role a little too seriously at times but zeke knew the perks of being a co-organiser of the event fine well by now. ”you hungry? because apparently there's a four course meal in about... twenty minutes maybe?”

---SASHA could remember the last time she’d seen zeke. it was the night they’d agreed to their mutual separation, to see if it helped their relationship recover or if it really was for the best. she mostly remembered it as the night that her waterproof mascara had, tragically, failed her. expecting it to stay dry when she cried, she was distraught to find it running down her face, leaving smudgy, tell tale tracks that she didn’t realize until she arrived home. of course, sasha thought about that night all the time – but she’d chosen to block out the upsetting conversations she’d had with zeke, and focus on the trivial matters instead. it was only the week that followed when sasha was really hit the hardest by the non waterproof mascara fiasco. pretending she hadn’t been crying was a lot harder when she had mascara trails down her rosy cheeks, and it only allowed for people to express their concern, which sasha hated. she didn’t want or need their attention right now, all she wished for was to be alone to think things through, and miss zeke privately. though working in a school had it’s benefits, it also had major downfalls. she couldn’t leave to cry whenever she wanted, because her class expected her to teach. she struggled through the lessons that week, barely comprehending her students and the information she was actually teaching.
---SHE'D never stopped missing him, of course, but she’d stopped pining for him. she got to a stage when she didn’t depend on seeing him, when her heart didn’t break each day because he wasn’t around. she managed to convince herself it was for the best – having one person in new york and the other in england made the relationship awkward at best. the time zones restricted their contact time, and sasha was already beginning to feel like they’d separated before they made it official. tugging her brunette hair over her shoulder, she smiled softly at the handsome man stood in front of her. his hair was longer, she observed, and he looked a little scruffier, but he was definitely still as dapper as she remembered him. a soft smile stayed on her face as he greeted her, complimenting her dress sense. she felt a rosy tint crawl into her cheeks and she bit her lip a little, still trying to overcome the awkward shyness she suddenly felt seeing him again. ”thank you,” she murmured quietly, smiling at him. she was reminded of the day four years back, when she’d first met him. even though she was nineteen at the time, and just starting out in her first proper job, she’d felt like a little girl when she first watched him teach. she lost all power of speech and was only able to stare gormlessly at him, admiring his teaching techniques, as well as his appearance as one of the hottest young teachers she knew. after that, they’d had a pretty whirlwind romance, with neither of them admitting their lust for the other immediately. once they’d fallen in love though, that was it – both of them were taken. when they were in the same country, their time together was bliss.
---SASHA held out a dainty hand and took his, relishing the touch of his skin against hers once more. she’d missed this – the closeness they shared, the electricity that ran through her when he touched her. it was mind boggling that he still had the same effect on her and her body that he had a year ago, when they’d last been together. she allowed him to lead her in, her eyes glancing around the lavish decoration hanging up, making the whole place look formal and inviting. ”well, whatever their excuse they all look stunning,” she commented, nodding in awe. ”and this place looks so amazing,” she gasped out, her eyes taking everything in, from the tables dressed with cutlery and menu’s, to the décor hanging from the ceiling. upon asking if she was hungry, sasha’s stomach grumbled as if on request. ”i’m starving,” she grinned at him gratefully, moving her free hand to her stomach. ”i could probably eat an eight course meal right now, but i suppose i can do with a four course one instead,” she laughed gloriously, winking at him a little as she tried to lighten the tension. it wasn’t awkward tension, by any means – it was more sexual tension, and sasha didn’t want that clouding their evening together. she allowed zeke to lead her to table and sit her down, nodding thanks to him when he pushed her in. she made herself comfortable and twisted in her chair to get the best view of him, smiling at him. ”thank you for inviting me out tonight, zeke”she murmured, smiling softly at him. ”I’ve been itching to explore new york a little more.” grinning, she let silence fall between them before feeling another question rise. ”so, what is this for?” she asked, a little nervously and curiously, as she hadn’t actually done her research. ”i feel bad because i don’t really know…” she trailed off, smiling innocently at him.
