 ---THE pool at the st. regis hotel was always one of jack's favorite places to be. no, he wasn't staying there, but his family and their clients stayed there often enough that the staff knew him by name and he had free reign over many guest areas. after swimming laps, he settled in one of the lounge chairs, watching a few of the female guests lounging around the hot tub. girl watching had always been a favorite hobby of his, and to make it look less obvious he had his laptop balanced on his lap. scrolling through his work email, he ignored the twenty unread messages- summer would deal with those later for him. exitting out of the internet page, he came face to face with his desktop, a picture of arista and him. smiling warmly at the picture of his tiny daughter, he looked over at his phone, picking it up and texting sicily to ask how she was managing with her. it made him nervous to leave the baby with her mother, not only because her maternal instincts kicked in nine months late, but because he was extremely antsy when it came to leaving the child with anyone. hearing the little pop of someone signing into skype, jack smiled when it saw it was hanna. immediately bringing up the program, he clicked the call button, waiting for her to answer.

[/color]eing free from the hospital she was unsure of what to do now back in new york. she looked around at her current home unsure of what she could do in this place. she was staying at the river's penthouse until she was able to find something of her own. she began to unpack her suitcases full of clothes, shoes, makeup, and an odd assortment of random objects before finding her laptop case. she hurriedly pulled her laptop out of the case and pushed open the screen. she had not been on the internet in ages it seemed and she was quite excited to see what it had in store. upon starting up the machine her usual programs began to spring into action including skype. she heard the ringing of a telephone as she looked around curiously before realizing the noise had come from her computer. she answered the video call with a smile on her face as she was greeted with a bare chested jack. “ you are aware that it's january, right?" she said with a laugh as she looked at him and shook her head. she was not quite used to the cold weather new york had to offer after spending the latter part of her trip in the warm countries such as australia, africa, and others. she shook a little just thinking of how cold he had to be as another laugh escaped from her pink lips.

---JACK was never the most patient person, and as the seconds ticked and the ringing of his skype call got on his nerves, he contemplated just shutting his laptop and going outside for a well deserved cigarette. finally his favorite blonde popped up on the screen and a mischevious smile crossed his lips as she spoke to him. ]"yes because i'm actually outside" he said sarcastically, turning the laptop so she could see the pool area. ]"i'm enjoying the st.regis pool and all its.. amenities" he said coyly, his attention being caught by a leggy brunette as she walked by him. after a moment or so of being extremely obvious inchecking her out, he remembered he was on skype with his ex-girlfriend. and one who would rather throw a tantrum and cut his balls off than see him with someone else. ]"what are you up to? settling in easily?" he asked, hoping she hadn't really noticed his behaviour. jack hoped it wouldn't be too awkward with her staying in his familys penthouse. they had spent a lot of good times there during their high school years, and he was hoping the memories weren't flooding back like they did whenever he went there. feeling the cellphone on his chest vibrate, he looked down at it momentarily before setting it on the table next to him, focusing fully on the screen and the beautiful girl in the picture. jack couldn't help but smile, thinking about her.

[/color]f course he was inside - why didn't she think of that. the idea of indoor pools had escaped her mind as she let out a soft laugh at her stupidity. she watched him curiously as he gazed off into another direction and she rolled her eyes. “ amenities huh?" she said giving him a bit of a glare as she shook her head. she was used to this behavior from him after all they had dated for four years on and off. she was still getting used to talking to him - she had shut him out of her life for a year and a half and had been really happy with her decision but of course the memories of him were always flowing back. she glanced around the penthouse as a sigh left her lips before meeting his gaze once more. “ i missed this place" she said softly as she picked up a teddy bear he had given her a few years back that was still here. she squeezed it softly as she let out a deep sigh and blinked away the tears before they could form in her eyes. she was tired of being the over emotional ex-girlfriend who had control issues. she was still in love with him regardless of whether she was going to acknowledge it.

---HE couldn't help but smile when she realized her dumb comment, she looked cute when she was being a blonde. ]"yes, amenities" he confirmed, mentally wincing at the glare she gave him. he deserved it though. whether they were together or not, they were in the awkward place of not really knowing where to go. he was the one that was unsure. he knew hanna would gladly get back together with him and pretend nothing had ever gone wrong with them. it made him feel bad that he coudn't give her everything she wanted- but life was complicated. sicily had come back as well, and as arista's mom and his new roommate, he had to consider her as well. he obviously still had a soft spot for the brunette, he had been in love with her too. jack almost immediately regretted his question, he nodded sheepishly, watching her carefully as she hugged a teddy bear and he saw the sad look on her face. ]"c'mon hanna..." he said gently, wishing he was there to give her a hug, ]"please don't cry" he mumbled, feeling akward. running his hands through his already messy hair he sighed and shook his head. "fuck sakes" he mumbled to himself, looking back at the screen.

[/color]he brushed away any sign of sadness from her face as she gave a big fake smile and looked at him as if he was crazy “ i'm not crying" she said as she bit down on her lower lip hoping to keep all of her emotions contained for the time being. she pushed the bear to the side as she ran a hand through her long blonde hair. she couldn't wait to go and get a haircut, this was the longest she had let it grow in years. she looked into the little circle above her screen which was her webcam. “ i'm fine" she said directly into the camera hoping to sound convincing. she grabbed a pillow off of the couch and hugged it against her chest as she looked at him. she knew that he wouldn't buy her story but she hoped he'd drop it. she hated that she was the one who cared so much - this had never been her. she had been the one to run away because she was scared and she was the one who caused all of this which she now regretted. “ how come i wasn't invited to the pool?" she asked, attempting to change the subject. she rummaged in her suitcase before emerging with a topless black bikini “ i haven't gotten the chance to wear this yet." she said with a slight pout.

--- JACK knew she was lying. he knew her well enough to know what would make her upset, and seeing him with other girls was obviously something that would make her upset. he felt guilty for doing it, but he felt it necessary. she was the one who left because she wasn't sure. what if he dropped everything for her and she did it to him again? he couldn't deal with that and the thought of having to wasn't sitting well with him just yet. "the fuck you are" he grumbled to himself. he decided to let it go though, talking about it would only make her a lot more upset and him get more pissed off with himself and the world. jack felt his muscles tighten when he saw the little bit of material she held up and was try to pass off as a bikini. "because i can't have you wearing that in public. i'll come over tonight and you can wear it in the hot tub" he suggested, smirking suggestively and rufffling his hair again. "i'd get way too jealous if you wore that where other people could see you" he added, scratching his chest and laying back with his arms resting behind his head, casually scanning her thin figure on the screen.

[/color]he pouted a little as he denied her request to wear her bikini. “ but they do it in france!" she protested. she crossed her arms in front of her chest as she glared at him. she laughed as he said he would get way too jealous if she wore that in public. “ well, technically you couldn't stop them from staring. i'm a free bird." she said with a laugh as she looked at him anticipating his reaction. she knew that while they were not dating he was still overly protective of her. thoughts of wearing the slim to nothing suit in public made her laugh as she shook her head. she watched him eye her through the skin and rolled her eyes as she took off her top. “ remember what you're missing out on?" she said as her she pointed to the pink bra that adorned her skinny figure. she pulled the thin t-shirt back over her body only doing it to get a reaction out of him. she wanted him to be reminded of what he was missing every chance she got. she knew she hurt him and that it was going to take a lot to win back his trust but she could have some fun all the while.

--- JACK rose an eyebrow, "this isn't france, and i know you. you don't have the balls to wear that in public anyway" he said knowingly. he prided himself in being one of the only ones to have seen her naked- apart from the two guys she hooked up with while she as away, but he was trying to forget she had told him that so he could continue thinking he was the only one she had ever been with. it made him feel special and it really gave his pride a boost. he merely shrugged as she said she was a freebird. this was true, and he took advantage of the fact that he was single, but the thought of her doing the same made him angry and hurt. he knew it was a double standard, but he couldn't exactly help it. jack rose his eyebrows as he saw her taking off her top, looking around once he realized he was in a public place and someone could walk by and see him skyping with a topless girl. swim trunks were not easy to hide a boner, and he knew that from experience. "i still have the memories of last night" he said matter-of-factly, smirking to one up her. "and you still have the evidence" he said, pointing to the lovebites on her chest before she pulled her top back on.

[/color]he glared at him as he challenged if she would dare to be topless in public “ i've already wore that. don't think i won't do it again." she said as she looked at him confidently. she wasn't afraid to prove a point especially about this. he seemed to believe that he had her wrapped around his finger and she wanted to prove just how wrong he had been. she didn't like that he had so much pride in knowing he was one of the few she had hooked up with. she almost felt the need to go on a spree of a hookups just to prove that he wasn't that special, that he could be replaced. the problem was actually believing the words that ran through her mind. “ a lot about me has changed, jack." she said confidently as she looked at him. she knew that she wasn't the same person but some things would never change.

--- KNOWING that she had changed didn't make him happy. he liked the old hanna. the one who did what he said with no questions asked, the hanna who was completely devoted and could let anyone know that. he didn't want someone who was more free-spirited. he had that with other girls. hanna was supposed to be different and it made him uneasy, especially with the feelings he had for her, to know that she could replace him. so he tried to just squash that feeling and think that he was her one and only and that she couldn't move on. he knew there were two ways to go about it. acting like he didn't care, or allowing her to see that it bothered him that she was so independent now. when she spoke about her changing, he shrugged, glaring at her before looking away. "yeah and not necessarily for the better" he shot back spitefully, purposefully glaring at her again before looking away and rubbing his forehead. "why don't you go prance aorund in your little fucking bikini then?" he said, pretty sure that he was wrong to get defensive when she wasn't his girlfriend, but not caring. "do whatever the fuck you want. i knew you were lying when you said you loved me" he accused, once again looking into the little blue light of his webcam.

[/color]hile she had changed a good bit over her travels she was still the same girl who was in love with the same boy. she was trying to prove to him that she was different and that he should care about her more and that she was worth the attention but at the same time she was pushing him away. she looked at him as the harsh words came through her speakers “ i might just do that then." she said - the defensive tone in her voice ringing loud and clear. the next thing he said took her by surprise as she looked at him and shook her head. she could feel the tears welling up in her eyes as she shouted at him, “ i love you so much it fucking hurts. it hurts to you see you happy with sicily. it hurts to know that i can't make you happy anymore and it fucking hurts to know that you don't love me." she said as the tears made their way down her cheeks. she pushed the laptop to the side looking away as she wiped her tears. she was still partially in the view of the webcam as she shook her head and whispered to herself “ i knew i never should have came back." she said softly as she tried to keep her emotions under control.

--- FEELING that sitting in public on skype when they were going to argue wasn't a good idea, jack picked up his laptop and carried it into the boys changing room, locking the door so nobody could get in as he set the laptop down on the bench and sat infront of it, tilting the screen up so his face was showing. if she wanted to yell, he could easily trump her. it wouldn't be hard. jack sighed and shook his head as she yelled at him and started to cry, saying that she loved him. he knew she was being honest. and he could see that by the way she was reacting right now. it hurt him when she said that he didn't love her. he wasn't ready to admit that he did just yet. she had left a huge hole when she left, and he had never been able to fill it completely. yes he had loved sicily, ofcourse he had. but she wasn't hanna. "the fuck i don't. don't be such a stupid cunt" he yelled into the camera, "i'm not with sicily, i've told you that over and over but you don't seem to watch to accept that" he added angrily, staring at her with his eyebrows furrowed. his fists were clenched when she said she shouldn't have come back, and he felt the urge to throw the laptop across the room. instead, he put his fist hard against the wooden bench, "GOD FUCKING DAMN IT, HANNA" he said, full on yelling now. "fucking eave if you're so miserable! jesus" he continued, his face red and his neck muscles tight as he tried to keep from yelling more. "i already told you that if you hate it here so much i can't keep you here" he added, quieter, almost humbled by the way he had acted. averting his eyes he scowled and rested his elbows on the bench, keeping his head down as he tried to figure things out in his mind.

[/color]ears were streaming down her face as she listened to him argue with her“ tell me you love me then, jack. shouldn't be hard" she looked into the camera as she clutched the teddy bear that had been laying right next to her. she was in no way ready for this conversation but they were having it anyway. “ i fucking miss you and i miss us. i want us to go back to how we were." she said as she tilted the laptop back towards her. “ i don't want to leave." she quickly added. she had never wanted to leave but felt it had been her only choice. “ i want to be here with you." she whispered softly thinking back to all the years they had spent together. she wanted to be happy again. she wanted their relationship to come effortlessly like it had before. she tried to keep from crying but it didn't seem to be too easy. she kept her grip on the teddy bear in her lap as she looked into the camera once more her eyes pleading that he would make everything better.

"i can't do that yet" he told her, looking into the camera and wishing she understood. "you fucking left me. for no reason other than wanting something different. i can't forget that and i haven't gotten completely past it yet" he sad to her, just wanting her to understand that it wasn't as easy as she thought. "it's not fucking fair that you sit there crying because i can't say i love you, yet you were the one who left the country just because you could" he argued, still looking at her and wishing he was there to take her in his arms and cradle her, kissing her tears away. "we will never be that couple again, baby. you know that. too much has changed, you said it yourself. i'm not saying that we can't be better, stronger. but we can't go back" he said gently, trying to reason with her. "i need time. whats wrong with just enjoying eachothers company and seeing what happens?" he asked, ruffling his hair
